MaqicQ MQ40N

MagicQ MQ40N is part of a new generation of small and lightweight MagicQ Consoles specifically designed for travelling lighting designers. The MagicQ MQ40 fits within the hand luggage restrictions of all the major budget airlines including Ryanair, Easyjet and South West.  Based on the same ARM technology used in modern phones and tablets the MagicQ MQ40N has lower power consumpton and does not require a fan - enabling silent operation for theatrical and corporate shows.

MagicQ MQ40N features a simplified version of the MagicQ GUI, designed to make the console simple and easy to use for installations, clubs and schools while still featuring advanced features such as MagicVis and MagicHD connectivity options and in-built Pixel Mapper found in all other MagicQ consoles, and utilises the same software and show formats, enabling compatibility between all products in the MagicQ range.

MagicQ MQ40N supports a total of four univeres either by direct DMX outputs on the rear panel or via network.

MagicQ MQ40N can be connected via network to a PC or Mac running ChamSys free MagicVis lighting visualisation software for full visualisation of all the universes at no extra cost.

MagicQ MQ40N can be connected via network to a PC or Mac running ChamSys free MagicHD media player software for output of up to 8 layers of HD media at no extra cost.

MagicQ MQ40N incorporates high reliability components, including high durability metal Neutrik connectors.

MagicQ MQ40N provides an immensely powerful complete control console in an ultra compact size. It is ideal for easy transport and fitting into small spaces, and is the console of choice for controlling lighting, video and LED. The MagicQ MQ40N also makes an ideal "tech console" for testing lighting on stage or in the warehouse

MQ40N versus MQ60/MQ80

The MQ40N is designed as a low cost DMX only console with a simplified user interface making it extremely easy to use - ideal for installations, clubs, schools, and small venues.

Unlike the MQ60 and MQ80, the MQ40 is fixed to 4 DMX universes.

The MQ40N has one network port supporting ArtNet, ACN, Pathport, network connection to MagicVis and MagicHD, MagicQ multiwindows (for more windows) and MagicQ Android/iOS app via external router.   It does not support Net Sessions, net connection to 3rd party media servers, CERP, ChamNet or Net Wing Mode.  The original MQ40 has no network port.

In order to keep the settings simple the MQ40N supports a limited number of additional MagicQ USB wings and interfaces - just the MagicQ Extra Wing Compact and the MagicQ Playback Wing.  It does not support the MagicQ Execute Wing, the MagicQ MIDI/SMPTE interface, the MagicQ Audio Interface or the MagicQ Dual DMX Interface.  Note that the MQ40N does have internal audio support.

Unlike the MQ60 and MQ80 the MQ40N does not have an inbuilt UPS.

MQ80 comparison with MQ60

Touch Screen:  MQ80 has a bigger and higher resolution screen - improved brightness, double the contrast ratio, and much better viewing angle (88/90 degrees all directions).

Buttons and Faders:  MQ80 uses wider buttons and faders as used on the MagicQ MQ100 and MagicQ PC Wing Compact.

Power: MQ80 has a more powerful processor which enables handling of more universes and faster graphics.

Size:  MQ80 is a bit wider and deeper, meaning it will generally need to be checked baggage rather than cabin baggage.

High resolotion touch screens

The screens provides all the information you need right in front of you without having to continually scroll around to find what you need.

Compability

ChamSys believes that it is important for Lighting Designers to be able to move between different MagicQ consoles and different MagicQ software versions without having complicated import and export procedures.  Nobody likes having to re-program their show just to meet a particular product version or software version.

With MagicQ it is simple.  Any MagicQ show, any MagicQ console, any MagicQ software version.

And don't forget - you can run MagicQ on your Windows PC, your Mac (native), or even on Linux.

Processing Nodes

MagicQ consoles output all their universes directly from the console - no need for external processing nodes. When modern phones and tablets are capable of streaming HD movies, is it really believable that lighting consoles are limited to calculating only 8 or 16 universes on board?

ChamSys doesn't try to sell you expensive network processing nodes.  The console is complete, fully functional, outputs all universes - one item, one price.

ChamSys test the consoles with every channel patched and executing cues to prove that the consoles are more than capable of meeting their specified performance.

Free Apps

MagicQ includes the free MagicVis visualiser - a fully featured visualiser with full gobo and beam rendering, objects, media feeds, moving trusses, programmable camera, plots and automated reports.

MagicQ includes the free MagicHD media player - supporting up to 8 layers of full HD media playback.

MagicVis and MagicHD run natively on Windows, Mac or Linux.

No Rules

ChamSys does not believe in rules.  They want to make it simple.

You want to use your own Art-Net or sACN interfaces with all the MagicQ console universes?  No problem.

You want to add 8 Extra Wings to a MagicQ system?  No problem.
